FlyBe to switch back to Gatwick (LGW) from Newquay (NQY)
Great news that Flybe has agreed a deal with the government to move forward and avert a potential collapse. Unfortunately for some, as a result of necessary changes, FlyBe is to dropping its Newquay to Heathrow service in March.
It will instead revert flights back to it’s previous service of flights from Newquay to London’s Gatwick airport, which ended in March 2019. Cornwall Airport Newquay’s #newquayairport link to London is considered important enough to make the route one of the few in the UK to be operated under a “public service obligation” contract. Meaning the government provides a subsidy for the route and invites tenders to operate it. Although the change will be disappointing for some, equally a lot of people were disappointed when the Gatwick was dropped in 2019, so there is always an up side hopefully, and we are naturally very pleased that business will generally continue as normal.
